Violoncellist Detmar Leertouwer was born in the Netherlands. As a musician, he is equally at home with the modern 'cello and its repertoire as with earlier musical styles using period instruments. He started piano lessons with his mother and later began to play violoncello. He studied in the Netherlands, the U.S.A and in Switzerland. 
Detmar Leertouwer was prize winner in the 'van Wassenaer Competition Amsterdam' and he was awarded the first ensemble prize with 'I Musici Gelosi' in the 'Schmelzer Wettbewerb' in Melk.
Detmar Leertouwer played in several ensembles and with musicians including Musica Antiqua Köln, R. Jacobs, le Concert des Nations (J. Savall) and Barokensemble de Swaen. He was first 'cellist of l’Orfeo Barockorchester Linz. 
He has collaborated a lot with dancers and launched his own dance/music programme 'Dialogue between a Dancer and a 'Cellist' in 2006.

Detmar Leertouwer was teacher/professor of baroque 'cello, modern 'cello, chamber music and performance practice in Trossingen (Germany), at the Juan N. Corpas University and in the Master’s Programme at the Central University in Bogotá (Colombia).

During a tour in Colombia he introduced the music by the Sovjet avant-garde composer G. Ustvolskaja in South-America. Since 2014 Detmar Leertouwer is the ‘cellist of the ‘reART Ensemble’.

At present he is recording a DVD registration of the 6 solo suites for ‘cello by J.S. Bach in 6 different castles in Europe, to be released very soon.....read more
